How RTK and SLAM Work Together for Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Navigation
One of the most challenging problems in autonomous navigation is the transition between GPS-enabled outdoor spaces and GPS-denied indoor environments. Our solution combines RTK differential positioning with laser SLAM in a unified fusion engine.
At the core is a continuous pose estimator that monitors signal quality from both sources simultaneously. As the vehicle approaches a building, RTK fix quality degrades while SLAM features become more prominent. The fusion engine smoothly cross-fades between the two, maintaining a consistent position estimate without any discontinuity.
This enables the Pangolin AT-1 to drive from an outdoor yard into a warehouse, through the loading bay, and back outside — all without stopping or requiring operator intervention.
